I made mention down below of a dreadful, old, Democrat bag by the name of Nancy Pelosi - if you're tough enough, just scroll down and you will see her picture. She is, God help 'em, the Democrat speaker of the House of Representatives and she never stops bleating about the need for the Republicans to embrace 'Oprah' and join in a bi-partisan approach to the nation's economic woes. 'Country before party', seems to be her message.
However, the deliciously named Mary Ellen Synon has blown fancy Nancy's humbug to smithereens, here. She provides the background to Pelosi's constituency which contains the headquarters of Del Monte, one of America's largest fish and food processing and canning companies. The actual factory concerned in this story, Star-Kist Tuna, a subsidary of Del Monte, is in American Samoa and following some hefty contributions from them to her political fund, Pelosi, 'the working man's friend in word and deed', managed to excuse Samoa from a bill (passed two years ago by the hated Bush and all his 'Big Business' cronies!) raising the minimum wage. Thus, Samoans continue to can tuna for peanuts whilst m' lady Pelosi fannies around in the style to which she has grown accustomed in California and Washington. However, no sacrifice is too great for this big-hearted woman, who has used her influence to ear-mark $33m from one of 'Oprah's' bail-out bills, for, er, an "economic development credit in American Samoa." How much of that, er, 'development' money will end up in Del Monte's coffers is not known. The fact that her husband is a big ($17m+/-) investor in Star Kist Tuna, however, is known - thanks to the diligent efforts of Ms. Mary Ellen Synon who has now entered the list of women I want to bear my babies!
In small events great truths can frequently be discerned. We can all assume quite safely that virtually every Democrat politician, just like 'Putrid' Pelosi, will be ignoring the national interest and striving to fill his or her own local barrel of pork. That is not the least of the reasons why 'Oprah's' grand scheme will fail.
