Charlene-Cheri-Beth-Sue, the owner and Chief Executive Officer of TypePad, has writen to me, personally, I am sure, to enquire whether or not I would like to take up a special offer. My interest quickened, nay, raced, but apparently it did not involve her sending her private jet to fly me to California for the weekend for the celebrations to mark the fact that daily visits to this distinguished Blog have moved into double figures! Instead, it offered a new service by which my 'visitors' could mark up any of my posts that took their fancy as "Favorite". Alas, I had to point out, gently, to 'CCBS' (as I fondly think of her) that such an exercise was redundent for readers of D&N because all of my posts were "Favorites" and that forcing my readers to choose would be quite intolerable.
She insisted that "Blogging is a fun, social activity. It’s even more fun when you get feedback". I shuddered at the word "fun" and groaned at the thought of encouraging "feedback". Can you imagine encouraging Dr. 'Teabag' and his ilk to even greater efforts? And as for "social activity", well, surely the whole point of blogging is that it is deeply and unrepentantly anti-social. I sit, or rather slump, here in front of my keyboard, unshaven, unbathed and dressed, if that is quite the word, in my 'jimjams' and dressing-gown, spewing forth torrents (oh, alright then, trickles) of bile and neither you, dear reader, nor I have any wish to close the gap in the ether which seperates us.
I am beginning to have second thoughts concerning Sue-Cheri-Beth-Charlene!
