In a way, I suppose this is a follow-on from my previous post because it provides the perfect example of what the political class get up to when they think they are not being watched. In this case it is even more important because the story concerns the global political class where the insane dementia is even more rampant. I am obliged to Commentary magazine for pointing me in the direction of a story by George Russell of Fox News. He has obtained, by means he does not disclose (so it's a good job he's not British - see post below), a copy of the confidential minutes of a secret meeting held in a Long Island mansion last October. It was chaired by the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, and was attended by 30-odd of his principal UN advisors. This exclusive group have given themselves a long title which carefully obscures the nature of their business. I will abbreviate it to the CEB. It is important to understand that without Mr. Russell's journalistic efforts you would know nothing of this meeting which the participants had made considerable efforts to keep private.
So, what were they up to? Well, you can read the actual minutes but for a summary you can rely on Mr. Russell's summary:
- “the catalyst” for solidifying a global economic, social and political agenda, built around “green economy” goals
- a means to “reorient public and private decision-making” to make the world’s poorest people the new economy’s “main beneficiaries,”
- a method of also reorienting national decision-making in countries around the world to put the new agenda “at the heart of national ministries,”
- the occasion to create new bodies, like a U.N. Sustainable Development Council, similar to the U.N. Human Rights Council, to help guide the global process further in the years ahead, or give additional responsibilities to the U.N. Environmental Program (UNEP), the world body’s chief environmental agency.
Don't you just love their language? Like, "green economy", "re-orientate public and private decision making", and all with the aim of putting the ideas of these 30-odd self-appointed apparatchiks "at the heart of national ministeries". Apparently, a leading light at this little gathering was some Chinese cove called Sha Zukang and he was positively brimming with ideas to, er, "re-orientate your decision-making". Yeeees, I bet he was !
The participants were disappointed at the set-back they suffered at the last global warming conference in Durban, South Africa but they recognised that the world financial situation was not conducive - for the moment - in ramming insinuating these notions of global socialism into mainly western nations. But, "stick around, kid, you ain't seen nuthin' yet", these operators plot and plan for the long term.
You must mean either principal or unprincipled.

Maybe we could try "reorienting" Mr. Zukang.

Thank you, DM, as neat and witty a correction as I have ever received. Why do I always have a blind spot for 'principle/principal'. And how does Ortega manage so well? It's humiliating!
What a pleasure that would be, 'W'.
