It's a tired, old cliche from the editorial panjandrums at Her Majesty's Daily Torygraph that 'footie' is the new religion of the land. They may be right, but whether you are a believer (that is , a supporter, as they are known); or whether you are merely an agnostic (that is, a #~"::##ing, @##+ing, **#~#ing City/Wanderers/ United/Rangers/Celtic [tick as applicable] supporter), you really must worship at:
The Shrine of The Blind-Winger Jones
It is impossible for me to emulate his style so I will simply reproduce his introduction and tell you to read this man without fail - and sue me if you don't laugh and laugh!
"The virtual shrine, of the actual shrine, of the famous dead footballer and Stone-Age Methodist, Jones, the Blind-Winger of Sootfield. Born toothless and penniless, without a functioning eye between him, he still went on to become the most legendary figure in the Edwardian game. Killed at the Western Front, where he served, not as a soldier but as regimental totem, his grave has become a shrine of sorts."
"The best thing in 'Blogdom' since 'Duffandnonsense'", says, er, David Duff, actually!
3rd April: Bad news - 'Blind-Winger Jones' seems to have disappeared - hopefully this is only a temporary fault and normal ethereal service will be resumed shortly.
14th April: - He's back!
I'll be damned! I'm sure I saw him, or someone of similar description playing centre half for Partick Thistle at the weekend.
Certainly gave the impression he had neither sight nor sense of direction.
Thanks David, that's going in my bookmarks.
