I have just listened to 'Call me Dave' Cameron giving a speech to the CBI. I hadn't intended to but I couldn't find the 'do-flicker thingie' to change the channel. I was making some tea and trying to ignore it but gradually I began to listen, and the longer I listened the better I liked what I was hearing. In essence, he was admitting that the days of big government and its even bigger bureaucracy had reached their 'sell by' date. He insisted that he would get government and much of their fiddling, piddling, irritating, useless regulations out of of our lives. I shivered with pleasure!
But then the kettle boiled and I came down to earth. Could you trust him? When the howls of outrage and pain rise up from the Quango-crats and their serfs who depend on them, will 'Dave' have the stomach for the fight. Because there will be very real pain for many people when 'Granny government' walks out of their lives. Does he, like 'that woman', have a deep and fundamental belief in small government and the eventual benefits that will flow, particularly when he realises that the pain will last through at least a couple of parliaments before the benefits kick in?
To put it crudely, are his balls as big as Maggie's?
