Peter McKay (no link as yet) asks one pertinent question in today's Mail and I would like to ask another. First, Mr. McKay wants to know why so many rich capitalists gave money to Mr. Hain? It is a good question because I have known a few rich capitalists in my day, not Richard Branson or Phillip Green rich, but substantial men with equally substantial, self-made wealth. In my experience they all shared two characteristics. In business, they wouldn't give you the pickings of their nose without asking a hefty price. In private, they were frequently ultra-generous hosts and at charity functions they ostentatiously out did, and out bid, each other in their efforts to demonstrate their benevolence. Now I doubt that Mr. Hain is a personal friend of most, or even any, of the rich men who shovelled money in his direction; nor are they likely to have considered him a charity. Remember, he had already spent the first tranche of £83k and it was only after the campaign that he needed a further £100k to cover the bills. The total, according to McKay, is more than all the other candidates put together. So what did these rich capitalists get, or expect to get, for their money?
My question is somewhat different. What in hell did he spend it on? I mean, a £180k to run a midget campaign for the non-office of deputy leader of the Labour party? Do me a favour! "Follow the money" is the advice of most of the hard-nosed cops I read about in my 'crash-bang-wallops', and I would dearly love to know where all that dosh ended up.
How expensive can it be to run a sun-bed?
