- My amateur effort to keep track of the murdered body count in this "scepter'd Isle" since July 3rd 2007, as the government and the liberals insist that crime figures are falling and there is no need to look again at sentencing policy.
My sources are the BBC News sites which do not necessarily report every homicide on the main regional bulletins, so this is not an exhaustive list. However, quite often, several months later, the accused appear in court and that is often reported so I pick up some cases which passed me by at the time. For my purposes, men and women are 17+ years and children are 16- years.
TOTAL SINCE 3/7: 392 men: 130 women: 57 children:
CODES: EN= England, SC=Scotland, NI=Northern Island, WA=Wales.
In this, the last half of March, we have an example of a father stabbing his son, a 16-year old slashing the throat of a 14-year old, an elderly man of 71 strangling a woman of 68 and a man hunted down by a gang in Birmingham and deliberately executed by shooting. "Tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime"! Yeees, quite!

Against all experience and hope, the little girl missing for over 3 weeks has been found alive so my child murder statistic has been adjusted downwards, but fear not, there have been a further two in the first 2 weeks of this murdering month of March! Included is an incident which appears to indicate that security on the Queen's highway has reverted to medieval times with a woman on a bicycle having a verbal dispute with 4 women in a car who promptly got out and stabbed her to death. Well, I suspect they were frightfully common people so the posh educated liberals won't turn a hair let alone change the law.

597 people murdered in 6 months?
One reason to detest the British.

Just as facile and just as wrong as your first comment here, 'MD', but glad to note your consistency. The overwhelming majority of the British public neither support nor condone the current murder rate. Indeed, if their politicians actually heeded them the death penalty would return and the murder rate would drop to general acclamation.
