As you say, it's a dirty job, but someone a woman's got to do it.. ;)

You'll get no argument from me!

While it's rare for people to actually die from drug withdrawal it is a rather terrible experience. Being water-boarded or subject to a working over with a cattle prod is also unlikely to kill either but we wouldn't consider that acceptable either.

Too many bloody eithers. Pah! The web suxors!

Welcome to Duff & Nonsense, David, Actually, in certain circumstances I see nothing wrong in using water-boarding and/or cattle prods but I admit that it is a minority view. The main point Dalrymple is making, and remember that he is, or was, a prison doctor for some years, is that making prisoners go 'cold turkey' is deeply unpleasant for them but not life threatening and certainly not an infringement of their human rights. Indeed, giving them substitutes is actually far more dangerous.

Is Julia witty? Oh, and thanks for the link! I'm a longtime fan of Dr. Dalrymple.

Of course she is. You are funny, 'Sister Wolf', she is witty.

By the way, the little 'Memsahib' thinks you're very funny, too, so do try and keep her cheerful otherwise my life is hell!

Also, your commenters are very funny, as well; although perhaps more in the 'funny peculiar' sense rather than the 'funny haha'!

But, doesn't witty mean...oh, never mind. I will do my best to keep the Mrs. entertained. It's the least I can do for you, given the Julia thing and the "other" thing, too. xo
