I hardly ever refer to our Chancellor of the Exchequer by name, instead I call him Brown's 'glove muppet' which I hope conveys the image of not only a helpless doll with Brown's hand up its back, but a particularly stupid doll at that. After yesterday, I think the word 'yellow' should be added because it is now quite clear that the wretched man is a gutless coward. Perhaps an excuse can be made for his cringing obedience to his master last year when calamity followed calamity, but since then he must have had time to pause and consider. In the run-up to this budget he was in an impregnable position because no prime minister could lose his Chancellor at such a moment, a resignation would have instantly entailed a general election. So there was his chance, and apart from any economic incentive to do right, his own self-interest dictated that he should do right so that at least his name would go down in the history books as an honourable man who put country before party. He failed the test and his reward is to live in ignominy in the political history of our nation. His tragedy, brought about by personal weakness and cowardice, is almost Shakespearean; it is the equivalent of Gloucester's to Lear's; it is the minor key movement in a tragic symphony written in a major key. I rarely pray, and usually only when I am extremely frightened, but now I am praying on bended knee out of pure, unadulterated rage that the British people exact a terrible and terrifying punishment on Gordon Brown and all his acolytes at the next election.
So you would say, that on balance, with all considered, that after much consideration...Gordon Brown...not too keen.

Well, let's just say, I'm not too sure I'd like my sister to marry him!

"at the next election", David? Surely you mean "after the next election"? That's when the rope-lamppost conjunction syndrome may occur.

Don't tempt me, 'DM'!
Just tell me true, in your lifetime have you ever experienced a worse government, of either colour, than this one? I thought Wilson's was bad but this shower defy description.
