Well, you were right about Lone Star, so I just ordered The Brass Verdict from Amazon.

I'd like to return the favor. I think you'll like The Story of a Marriage, by Andrew Sean Greer. Norm Geras recommeded it on his blog, and its really an unusual novel -- simple (but odd) story, told well.

Thanks, Dom, I appreciate any tips for books despite the looming catastrophe that hovers over my 'study' in the form of a mounting pile of 'waiting-to-be-read' books!

I should make clear, lest you are disappointed, that my 'pulp fiction' recommendations are exactly how I describe them - pulp fiction - not long-lasting enough to even qualify as ephemeral!
