Bit down to day, are you? Feeling a touch gloomy after reading my post yesterday? Then cheer up because, despite it all, here at D&N we always strive to bring you good news. Consider the last couple of days now that we have the D&N show - no, no, not Duff & Nonsense but 'Dave 'n' Nick' - that amusing press conference and then the sight of all those Tory toffs and LibDem tarts gathered round the cabinet table. Yes, it's easy to sneer and no doubt 'Dearieme' is poised to warn me in Caledonian terms that it's a charade and we're all doomed, but consider the up side. Do you not share that immense feeling of joy that Gordon Brown is gone? He's been hanging around my life for what seems like forever, rumbling away in that baritone voice with his craggy, saggy face and that little octopussy mouth with its occasional rictus smile that disappeared the minute you noticed it. What a sad sack! And not just him, but also the rest of that gang. The execrable 'Ed' Balls with his 'flight lithp' and his blinky eyes - gone. The two completely inter-changeable Bean brothers, 'Ed' and 'Dave', who at least added very slight relief because of their obvious gormlessness - also gone. The thinking man's stale bun, 'Harry Harperson' - gone. And our favourite glove puppet with the strange eyebrows, Alistair (ain't my) Darling - also gone. All of them, the whole rotten crew - gone, gone, gone.
Instead we have a pair of well brought-up public school boys and, like 'em or hate 'em, you have to admit they do have that effortless charm and style which makes you smile appreciatively even as, in time honoured style, they shake you by the hand whilst deftly removing your wallet with the other. But at least they look and sound cheerful. The fact that there is absolutely nothing to be cheerful about I put down to good, old-fashioned, British pluck - or utter dimness - of the sort which is only learned on the playing fields of Eton.
So "reasons to be cheerful - one, two three ..."
Glad to see the back of them? I'd be glad to see the front of them - in the stocks, for a few days. A brisk tomatoing would do 'em a power of good. And if we hanged Blair too, my joy would be unconfined.
As for Ant and Dec - we can but pray.

"Ant and Dec" - love it!

I'd rather have the charmless effort of a Thatcher who recognised reality and tried to do something logical to fix it.
If I want charm, I can look at Lolcats.
I pay taxes and in sacrificed freedom for good government - and won't get it any time soon.

Oh, come on, 'NNW', I'm doing my best to cheer you up!
