As the GBP (Great British Public) failed for some unaccountable reason to follow the immensely wise advice offered here at D&N to reduce Labour to a squabbling, mouth-foaming rump of a minority party then we must hope that Labour can do it to themselves in the forthcoming leadership fight. In that spirit I can only hope and pray(*) that the malignant Ed Balls wins because the next leadership battle will begin the day after that! According to everything I read he is detested even more in the Labour rank and file than he is here, in the distinguished columns of D&N. Should my wishes be ignored - again! - then the elevation of 'Harry Harperson' is devoutly to be desired. This monumentally stupid woman combines gracelessness with a gallery of 'monster raving loony' opinions guaranteed to keep Labour out of office for years. Alas, however, I fear they will follow the lead of the other two main parties and elect a young but telegenic nonentity who will bore us all rigid for the next decade. His last name will be Miliband but whether his Christian name is 'Ed' or 'Dave' no one can be sure - and no one will even notice the difference!
(*) I am about to go out and cut the grass in the Churchyard and as He fully understands now, nothing is for nothing, so I will be making it quite clear to Him that the grass only gets cut on the understanding that Balls wins the leadership. Just to be sure, I will promise Him to use the strimmer round the gravestones, too, so that the place looks really tickety-boo. I mean, if a chap can't ask for a bit of divine intervention what's the point?
