It's a shame Lord Coe wasn't guilty of such inanities before London was chosen to "host" the 2012 Olympics. I'm happy if athletes and footballers (and those who like watching them) enjoy themselves - but why should I pay?

Football has become eerily similar to the Ancient Roman rivalries between the "Blues" and the "Greens": tribal, money obsessed and with politicians identifying themselves with the whole circus in the hope of having some of the popularity of the sport and its participants rub off on them. Then there is, of course, the obligatory mention by anybody in the public eye (particularly luvvies) that s/he is an ardent fan of Man United/Liverpool/Arsenal or whatever, as if football fanatics could care less who these people support (or not).

In a nutshell, 'Bongers, couldn't have put it beter myself.
