Let me speculate: when and if Mr P - or the headmaster's* secretary - responds it will be on the lines of "Mr P never got your letter (mixup between the head and Mr P)" or "Mr P replied but you didn't receive the letter". In other words it was the fault of the Head's secretary, the internal postal system at the school or the Royal Mail. In no way will it be Mr P's fault and any apology will be couched in terms of "regret" rather than taking responsibility for gross rudeness. A parable for today in that it's nobody's fault but there'll be a fulsome and insincere apology for "any offence caused".

You are an optimist, 'Bongers', I doubt I will ever hear another word!
