No sooner had I written a post down below indicating the possibility that Obama might not even run in 2012 than I watched Neil Cavuto on Fox News last night and he proposed much the same thing, albeit, for a different reason. His line was that Obama could feel satisfied that he had successfully rammed down the throats of an unwilling American electorate the biggest dollop of unwanted socialism that any previous socialist president had ever attempted, indeed, even larger than any of his predecessors would have dared to hope for. The Federal government now owns enormous swathes of the American economy which means that millions of Americans are now government employees. He has also succeeded in forcing Americans to surrender to a national socialist health service. Finally, by clever use of Federal diktat, agreed to by a supine Congress, he is now able to pass huge changes of policy simply by manipulating the regulations and ignoring 'the folks on the Hill'. Cavuto's point was that Obama could walk away in 2012 with his head held high and confident that he will go down in history as a hero of the socialist Left.
(*) To be fair, I was only following Toby Harnden from The Telegraph.
