What a joy it always is when some loud-mouthed, bloody tyrant receives a poke in the eye with a sharp stick - or better still, a bayonet! This happy prospect awaits us all on September 26th, according to Roger Noriega in The American magazine, when Venezuelans elect a new assembly. Despite, or perhaps because of, Chavez's gross efforts to corrupt the voting system in favour of his government, the polls indicate that his party will be soundly trashed. Needless to say, if the result goes against him it will be ignored or crushed. The only people capable of stopping him are the army and he, very shrewdly, has spent the last 10 years cleansing their ranks of any dissidents. So I don't expect there to be any great changes but at least it will make it that little bit harder for 'useful idiots' like Bob Piper to continue with their unwavering hero-worship. In the longer term only one thing will bring down Chavez and that is when Venezuela goes broke which it is well on the way to doing.
Noriega's article is worth reading.
