Well, I suppose I must make clear that he was never under any obligation to keep me up, as it were, but because I admire him as a witty writer I was deflated by his de haut en bas attack on MDS (My Darling Sarah) and her Tea Party associates. As a very lower-middle-class, semi-educated oik crippled with pretensions, there is nothing guaranteed to get my goat than some over-educated pillock sneering down his nose at those who fail to reach what he or she consider to be the intellectual heights. Norman lays into MDS with his usual acerbic wit:
Near unanimous non-Tea Party opinion holds that she is as intellectually and temperamentally qualified for the Oval Office as Britney Spears
to which my instant response is to demand that Norman tells me in precisely what way that high-minded, not to say, stellar, intellectual currently occupying the White House has improved American prospects since 2008? I mean, if being an intellectual (or to be precise, being thought 'intellectual' by people who never consider what the word means) is all that it takes to be a terrific president then how come 'brainiac' Pres. Wilson was such a dead loss and yet an old ham actor called Reagan was such an enormous success?
Anyway, Norman thinks that Palin may well win the nomination but in his view that will be the best news Obama has had since being elected because it should ensure his re-election in 2012. I could not disagree more and simply repeat my belief that Obama is a one-term president almost despite whoever stands against him.
ADDITIONAL: However, I forgive Mr. Norman everything for this piece in which he blows the truth surrounding the mysterious death of Paul the octupus!
