Daniel Steven Prior was 27 years old and serving with 2 Para in Afghanistan. A month ago he was granted two weeks leave in order to fly home and see his wife and his new, first-born son, Logan Prior. He returned to duty and last week he was caught in an IED blast. Evacuated back to the UK for emergency treatment, he died on Thursday.
So far, so normal in these troubled times but . . . nearly 30 years ago his uncle, Steven Prior, also 27, from whom he took his middle name, died serving with 2 Para in the Falklands during the fierce battle of Goose Green.
An inconsequential tale of two soldiers living, and dying, by the lights of their honourable trade. I bow my head in respect to both of them.
