Corker alert! Regular readers will know that presages a red hot tip for yet another piece of terrific 'pulp fiction'. This time, continuing my odyssey into the Scandinavian underworld, I bring you a thriller - and, oh boy, do I mean thriller! - written by two authors, Roslund and Hellstrom, and called Three Seconds. It's out in paperback now and I urge you to give it a try. Yes, it is a tad far-fetched; yes, two authors does not lend itself to an entirely easy read; yes, the lead detective does indeed suffer with galloping, pathological misanthropy, enough, one feels, to have him invalided out of any real-life police force; but, the plot is terrific. In fact, so terrific that a combination of visitors and frantic efforts to creep away to another room so that I could keep on reading meant that I was quite unable to post anything on the blog yesterday. I just had to see how it all worked out. If Hollywood doesn't seize the film rights I'll drop dead with shock - what a film it will make, and I only just hope and pray that make a good, subtle job of it. Give it a try, people, this comes with a 'Corker plus' recommendation. Than which, etc, etc.
ADDITIONAL: The number of coincidences in my life recently is becoming rather creepy. No sooner had I finished the book above when I read this morning that the American Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms (AT&F) have been running a scam in which they encouraged the smuggling of arms across the border into Mexico as a (doubtful) means of infiltrating the gun-runner gangs. The end result, which has all the inevitability of a Greek tragedy, was the death of an American border guard by one of the weapons concerned. The parallel is not exact but if you do as you are told(!) and read Three Seconds you will see the similarity. Creepy!
Incidentally, I have a friend's 70th birthday lunch to attend after which my visitors depart and I can once again return to this blog.
So it was a book!
I thought that those two post-free days were because you, with such a bleeding heart, had volunteered to take in some of the poor girls below, rushing out of Libya.
Shame on you!

Ortega, of course, I have offered my charitable services to them - Support the Old Comradettes of the Libyan Army - but alas no takers - yet!
