URGENT - WATCH THIS NOW:
I finished writing the post below and then clicked over to Guido's who has a recording of last night's Paxman show in which Peter Oborne actually succeeds in driving some Euro-fanatic from the studio whilst giving Richard Lambert, former editor of the not-very-Financial Times a severe headache. NOT TO BE MISSED, GO WATCH IT NOW!
Today's the day! Will enough of Mrs Merkel's party rebel against the idea of the Bundesbank being plundered by Greece today and everyone else tomorrow? The measure will pass because the Left-wing opposition parties are in favour but if she is forced to accept their patronage as the only means of forcing the Bill through because her own party cannot raise sufficient votes then she will have lost all authority. I suspect she will squeak it through because she is no mean operator when it comes to twisting arms and if all else fails she can rely on the German habit of always obeying!
STOP PRESS: Only 13 of Merkel's party voted against with 2 more abstaining. Mein Gott, they're as wet as our Tories. They wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes on the Eastern Front!
