Well, it would be marvellous if they gave us, the people, the option of expressing ourselves via the ballot box. But normally, they just press for closer union and present up with a series of faits accompli. Expect more lies and scare-mongering before they actually fess up to the real alternatives...

Of course, you are right, W', in suspecting that they will wriggle and squirm their way towards a sub rosa national union but in their hearts I think they know that, at least in several of the countries, the people would riot if a referendum was not held.

Honestly, I think they are such fanatical dreamers that they really think this last sticky plaster is going to cure the cancer in the beast!
