So, that is four of the ten episodes of the second series of The Killing on BBC4 that I have watched and, alas, my lurking fears have been confirmed. It does not match up to the first series, not anywhere near! I suspected as much when it became known that they had halved the run-time, thus, forcing the writer(s) into a tight spot. The pleasure of the first series was the almost leisurely way the complex story lines unfolded week by week, a bit like 'Tinker, Tailor', than which, etc. This allowed the camera time to wander in and out of people's lives, showing us something new, a clue here, a hint there and always the tension of not being sure if we have missed something crucial. Also, brushing up against the lives of so many people and families added a rich mix to the warp and woof of the society that was portrayed. It allowed the extraordinary Insp.Lund to almost hide in the 'undergrowth', so to speak, so that her eccentricities, verging on psychopathy, only appeared gradually and, given the horror of the killing itself, one almost sympathised with her fixation. But this story is so straighforward that one can almost see it coming, and the only personal tale within it (so far) is the wife and the ex-soldier on the run and frankly it has not captured my interest. Damn! Why can't these TV money-men realise that time and patience and infinite care, plus a dash of real talent, is what makes a classic series. Sikke en skam. That's 'what a shame' in Danish which you would know if you were a first class 'googlinguist' like wot I am!
Tidak apa apa.
Look that up in your Funk & Wagnall ... oh, alright, Wikigoogler.
