As regular readers know, I am not above a bit of larceny from OPBs (Other People's Blogs) when they write something witty or intelligent or moving, although I do try always to acknowledge the source. However, on this, the most solemn of days, I will forego my petty thievery and instead urge you all to pay a quick visit, it should take no longer than two minutes which is entirely appropriate on this day, to Anna Raccoon's site and read her musings on The Unknown Warrior. It is superb.
Yes, a very good piece of writing. A bit dated maybe, in that squaddies, and those they are built from, are probably more mentally sophisticated than she gives them credit for.
But it can't be said too often that we only live the fancy lives we do, because other people get treated like shit. I always make sure that those two minutes are a time for quiet reflection.
