Sorry to be so bossy but it really is for your own good because, frankly, I cannot think of a single better way to start your day than to watch this YouTube. It's not just the music which, written by Irving Berlin is obviously superb, nor even the routine which is witty and skillful, but it is the setting, in what looks like a very wintry Moscow which both surprises and delights. At my age I am burdened with grey images of Moscow under blitzkrieg, or rows of gangsters looking like stuffed dummies standing on a balcony taking the salute as millionsof men, tanks and rockets smash, bash and crash their way across Red Square and of forlorn geniuses like Dimitri Shostakovich scurrying through life just one step ahead of Stalin's malignancy. To see and hear something like this is, to me, quite extraordinary. Once again I am slapped in the face of my preconceptions and reminded just how much this old globe of ours has shrunk. Enjoy:

Get rid of all the politicians (and bankers, after today's news) and everybody in the world would be dancing in the streets as happy as this bunch.
PS: Never seen so many Russians smiling.

I think part of what makes it so effective is that it took place in February and the dancers are obviously dressed for the weather rather than for performance. Anyway, I'm going to take another look just to set me up for the morning ahead!

Definitely put a smile on my face this morning! Better than any cup of tea. Thanks, Andra and David, for sharing.
