This blog is, of course, an avid collector and distributor of moans, groans, grumps and whinges. All the unconsidered peccadilloes, sins, stupidites and downrigth crimes of humanity are faithfully recorded here - well, not all of them but a goodly, or badly, selection of them! However, I would not wish you to suppose that this blog is writtten by a miserable old misanthrope, on the contrary, I am always ready, willing and able (that's enough with the lists, already! Ed.) to bring to your attention the good deeds of humanity. And being serious for a moment, good deeds do not come much better than those of Lou Xiaoying of Jinhua, in the eastern Zhejiang province of China, as reported by The Daily Mail.
This lady, now 88 years of age has, along with her late husband, managed to keep body and soul together by collecting discarded rubbish and then recycling any of the useful bits and pieces. As a result of China's 'One Child' policy combined with a natural urge to have male children, unwanted and discarded babies are a common phenomenon in China. This lady has been finding them regularly:
Lou Xiaoying, now 88 and suffering from kidney failure, found and raised more than 30 abandoned Chinese babies from the streets of Jinhua, in the eastern Zhejiang province where she managed to make a living by recycling rubbish.
She and her late husband Li Zin, who died 17 years ago, kept four of the children and passed the others onto friends and family to start new lives.
Her youngest son Zhang Qilin - now aged just seven - was found in a dustbin by Lou when she was 82.

Lou is now dying from kidney failure. She is pictured here with two of the children she helped rescued.

Lou, left, caring her the babies with her husband Li Zin. She would give them to friends and family after she rescued them.
The compound word 'heartwarming' is a cliché but sometimes only a cliché expresses exactly what is called for. For what it's worth, I salute you Lou Xiaoying.
Thank you, DD, brilliant stuff. And the world's media needs to pay more attention to the good stuff, if you ask me. Pour encourager les autres!
