Can he choose the charity? Given that his work is mainly with charities anyway (i.e. writing silly articles for non profit making loons while he lives on his family's wealth) isn't this just allowing him to carry on as before?

Let him build windmills. Then fall off one.

'W', it is not so much the nature of the punishment I was remarking upon but the fact that he at least put his hand up and without prevarication 'fessed up' and said sorry.

Well, DM, he's spent most of his life tilting at them which is, of course, quite daft but somehow, in some way, sort of admirable.
