Duffers why would you be surprised at pollies wanting to cut back on the small "privileges" afforded to those at the sharp end while preserving their own? Perhaps they, the pollies, could not only cut back on subsidized booze at Westminster Palace but also do away with their free transport, indexed pensions for life and a host of other entitlements after a couple of terms in Parliament bludging on the taxpayer.

I spent 34 years in HM's uniform and listened to promise after promise and very rarely saw one honoured. I dislike most pollies on principle but even for its faults [and pollies are a big one] I can't think of a better system than a parliamentary democracy.

As to the troops Kipling summed it up nicely.

For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck 'im out, the brute!"
But it's "Saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot;
An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please;
An' Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool - you bet that Tommy sees!

And I'm sure I saw those two sheilas in a version of McBeth but there seems to be one missing.

Well said, Sir!

AussieD...fair observation their mate. Could it be that the third lady was having to stir the cauldron? Those boiling frogs demand much attention.

Soubry was a complete twerp when she was a full time student union officer at Birmingham University in the 1970s. I never met Moody but I'd lay odds she's out of the same mould.

Fred, according to 'SoD' (Son of Duff), virtually ALL student union officers were and still are total twerps. As he put it, and I paraphrase, 'why would you want to bother with that crap when you can go out and get drunk?'
