So well said and so sad. A generation's innocence and hopes were in that letter. All ground to bits by a human catastrophe.

According to my flying log book, I did 75 hours in Lancasters in 1956. Can't be many of your responders who can say that!

And so it goes on and on, Whitewall.

Well, BOE, I did several hours in Blackburn Beverelys. It would have been more but for the fact that they kept throwing me out of the back door!

Baling out of a serviceable aircraft is not a good idea, even if you have got a parachute!
