I know, I know, mea culpa and all that sort of thing, an amateur luvvie like me and I couldn't stay awake long enough to see the Oscars! Still, it's not all bad because apparently I missed a sermon from Mr. Leonardo DiCaprio (Is that his real name? Jest askin'!) on the horrors amounting almost to a crime against humanity caused by man-made global warming. I'm told it was all deeply moving, or at least, it produced several movements!
“Making The Revenant was about man’s relationship with the natural world, a world that we collectively felt in 2015 as the hottest year in recorded history. Our production needed to move to the Southern tip of this planet just to be able to find snow. Climate change is real, it is happening right now… and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating.”
Fortunately, 'over here' we have that absolute rotter and rascal, Guido Fawkes, to swing into action with his trusty hose-pipe of freezing cold water (and facts) with which he has doused Mr. DiCaprio - not, presumably, that he will have felt it much given his recent filming experiences!
But according to Guido:
Leo’s call for collective action must have been ignored by the makers of The Revenant. Shot 93% on location in Montana, Canada, and Argentina, the film required 438 members of its cast, crew, and production team to travel with them. An economy return flight from LAX to Edmonton, Alberta, leaves a carbon footprint of about 0.35 tonnes. When multiplied by the 438 on-set staff this equals 153 tonnes.
The carbon footprint for the Argentina leg comes in at a whopping 1.44 tonnes per return journey. Overall Guido’s stats bods estimate the Revenant’s total carbon footprint would be approximately 469.6 tonnes, or 426,000 kilograms. Oh, and the director also ordered an aerial bombardment of Canada’s Fortress Mountain to create an avalanche for one scene.
Still, at least he didn't kill any cuddly-wuddly polar bears - er, he didn't, did he?
Huh. I always thought his name was Lenny Cappuccino. Guess you're never too old to learn something new.
Been coming to your site for quite a while now. Nice to get a perspective from 'the other side of the pond' (what a silly saying...).

You are very welcome, Marty, and feel free to chip in any old time.

I haven't watched an Oscars since the mid 1970 I think. Seems Johnny Carson might have been the host. Different world back then.

Now I actually think about it, I don't think I have *ever* watched an Oscars show. Of course, I see the odd clip on the news but that's about it - in fact, that's more than enough - except when some bimbo trips over her 6" heels, can't get enough of that!

I don't know who any of these people are so why watch their silly luvvie fest?

David
From Wikipedia
However, he dropped out of high school following his third year, eventually earning his general equivalency diploma
Usually the armed forces will not accept a GED in lieu of a high school diploma. He is not qualified to be a lance Corporal equivalent. What do you expect?

Guido Fawkes is a smart blogger, so maybe I'm missing something. He seems to be assuming that all 438 members of the crew are EACH taking a private flight. Wouldn't they all fly in as few planes as possible?
Posted by: Dom | Tuesday, 01 March 2016 at 01:57
Dom - you're missing the fact that the flights refer to economy class tickets.
Apart from that minor detail... !

Leonardo De What Ever his name is is a dipstick. Pity the wanker didn't fall off the bow of the Titanic in making that silly movie.
Sorry Duffers but actors opinions are generally irrelevant as they are no more than people saying things made up by others to allegedly entertain. Sum total of benefit of their opinions? Zilch, zero, nada, sfa.

An excellent summary, AussieD, and by the way thanks for your 'funnies' - I can hardly wait for next Monday morning!
