Yes, recidivist, old lag that I am, I have returned to plunder waka waka waka, the blog of my old e-pal, Malcolm Pollack. Well, the fact is that, unlike this old dustbin of a blog, he nearly always has something intelligent and thought-provoking to say, and even better, he often expresses it succinctly. This time he poses a moral? legal? medical? conundrum:
Here’s a question for abortion absolutists:
A woman wishes to write a book about abortion. In order to give her work perspective and authenticity, she decides to become pregnant in order to experience an abortion herself. Being of independent means, she will pay all of the medical expenses.
Is there anything morally wrong with what she plans to do? If so, why?
Tricky! Damned tricky! But then I am not an "abortion absolutist". I would say that 9 times out of 10, abortion is an abomination but, dammit, there are always exceptions to just about every rule. However, when it comes to the proposal above then I think it is a vile and disgusting idea and any perp caught undertaking it deserves life in the 'slammer'.
Still, it makes you think. He's good at that, is Pollack!
David, there seems to be a whatchamacallit between your link and Malcolm's page?

Sorted - I think - I hope - thanks, Whiters.

It seems like a hell of a lot of trouble to go through for such a stupid result.
I'd like to think women are smarter than this and it's only men who have enough time to waste on dumb schemes like this.

You're probably, no, certainly, right, Andra!

I class myself as a right wing libertarian atheist so I believe people should be allowed to do whatever they wish as long as it does not harm others. The problem for me is that in my mind abortion does do harm to others. Unborn people however young and how little their conciousness has developed are still people. On the other hand humans have managed to cheat evolution and many are born and live longer than nature ever intended that they should. If abortion balanced that out then that would be fine but it does not. It is in fact humans yet again manipulating nature for their own selfish ends.

Interesting blog, BOE, if somewhat idiosyncratic in design and style.

Those are different visions. I would hope to keep the first and remove the second. That's just me.
