Don't hold your breath waiting for any of Ambrose Evans-Pritchard's predictions to come true.

Euro implosion, China credit collapse, here an apocalypse, there a cataclysm, everywhere an AEP.

If the Selmayr EU-putsch goes through, the Jerries will do whatever it takes to keep the Euro currency going. Politically they've got their Fourth Reich courtesy Brexit, and economically the Euro keeps the periphery poor and strengthen the Fatherland.

It's funny, isn't it, the four great gains that Germany has sought with which to dominate Europe and make a greater German Reich using the ultimate gamble of conflict. and lost - were then handed to her on a plate by the very enemies who defeated her in war! In time order of Muppets bearing gifts ...

- Re-unification of Germany - handed to her by the allies
- Euro currency economic domination of Europe - a donation to her from France
- Political domination of Europe - the Selmayr-putsch dropped in her lap by Trump and Brexit
- Detente with Russia - the Nord Stream 2 gift from Vlad

There must be a few Toms and GI's spinning in their graves.

As Michael Heseltine said recently, "We won the war, and lost the peace".

Just so long as those Italian clowns have size 24 boots with which to give the German/EU ubermenschen good colonic implants.

And given all that, SoD, why on earth do you want us to stay inside this "German racket"?

Don't worry, WJ, the euro is trembling on a high wire, one good twitch could bring it down!

The Lega Nord certainly sound interesting. Unlike the recent Catalan heroes, these guys are actually Eurosceptic and might even be wealthy enough to maintain confidence in their plan. Couple that with their parliamentary alliance with Beppo Grillo's lot, and we have a recipe for the most protracted and noisy chaos. If the proposed European army was actually in existence, they would be quietly massing at Italy's borders.

Where's the popcorn?

As I've said many a time and oft, us being in the EU was the Jerry-stopper. And with a new gang of like-minded pals in the EU we could have pushed back on the Jerries even harder.

But now the Jerries have rushed into the vacuum of our exit space, there's no return for Blighty.

The Kraut dominance you claim was on the cards anyway way nothing of the sort. You made it all possible for them by vacating.

"a new gang of like-minded pals"

And who, exactly and precisely, would they be?

And how comes it that German hegemony over the EU has grown and grown despite any opposition from anyone!

I forgot one on the list. Big one too. Rearmament.

How the allies that won WWII then lost the peace, and handed Germany everything she failed to gain through military means for free ...

- Re-unification of Germany - granted to her by all the allies
- Euro currency economic domination of Europe - a donation to her from France
- Rearmament - thrust upon her by the US & Trump
- Political domination of Europe - the Selmayr-putsch dropped in her lap by the UK & Brexit
- Detente with Russia and limitless cheap energy - the Nord Stream 2 gift from Russia & Putin

It is a bloody extraordinary story. If you were writing the script of a Game of Thrones season with that plot line the editor would throw it out as too implausible.

Yet it just happened.

The Germans are strong because the allies including Britain which became economically stagnant poured billions into rebuilding West Germany and keeping the British Army on the Rhine. The West Germans got massive investment while Britain suffered lack of it.
This was supposed to keep the Soviets at bay and now we have Russia.
The Germans and the EU have already forgotten about the past and Britain is just a pest now. At least we may be allowed to look after the graves of our war dead.

No wonder I repeat myself, you never listen to a word I say.

The Nordics, Ost Bloccers, Italy, Greece, Austria. Plus all the populist nationalist movements in Europe that haven't dominated in their nation states yet. They'll still give the Jerries a headache even without Blighty.

But with a large state like Blighty leading them and working some Perfidious Albion magic, we all together might have gained a majority in the EU Councils and Parliament and booted Juncker, Selmayr, and the Jerry-racket out of the EU executive.

Who knows, we might even have changed the EU executive into a directly elected body, rather than an indirectly chosen body. That would have screwed the Jerries forever.

I'm flip-flopping now. I can't decide whether there's still a chance to do that on the inside of the EU. Or whether it's game over and the Jerries have won.

Oooh, it's a tough one.

SoD

SoD - you're back!!

There was no chance of reforming the EU from inside. EU-phile PMs tried for 40 years and failed Every-Single-Time. The only way forward is to bring it down, while standing carefully outside the front door.

It is correct that Germany will do all it can to keep the EURO unicycle upright, but as the EU budget starts to bite without British contributions and the demands for support from the southern fringe more and more clamourous that irresistible force will come up against the immovable object of ever shrinking German political will to keep shelling out huge wads of cash.

It is unsustainable, and therefore it will end. At some point.

What know about the Germans is that they take a bit of beating and the Project will as a result limp on for longer than we can imagine, and the whole thing will get more and more rancorous.

But end it will.
