Yeah, all those Potemkin Villages! A communist dictatorship running a 'capitalist' style mercantile economy. Must be some sound paper and solid guarantees.

Several years ago, during a city tour of Wuhan, the guide pointed out an estate of new houses, all unoccupied. He told us that the value of the property decreases if someone has lived in it, so people buy them, leave them empty, and sell them when their value increases.
It may be an excuse for Potemkin villages but, if true, gives an interesting insight into the Chinese psyche.
