The man pictured is "every man". He was depicted deliberately as the essence of Anglo-Appalachia...meaning Jacksonian America. FDRs "Four Freedoms" speech is timeless.

There are four boxes to be used in the defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury and ammo.

The man above is availing himself of the first box. He has the right to "unbosom" himself before the public meeting.

I don't know much about visual art and this one is new to me. It's superb, though. Would to God that we had more of his type in the UK now.
