I have just read an article by this leading Republican politician on the subject of WWII that is so stupid as to worry me that this buffoon has any influence on American foreign policy! Using the perfect vision binoculars of hindsight, this less than great historian condemns the British for their decision to go to war over Poland in 1939. Pointing to the end result in which Poland, along with most of Eastern Europe, was swallowed whole by the Soviet Union he accuses the Brits of rank stupidity and, by implication, the Americans of strategic genius when they twiddled their thumbs doing nothing whilst the Japs sneaked in and came within a whisker of sinking the entire US fleet in Hawaii.
Britain decided to go to war because they realised that war with Germany was inevitable. It was only a matter of 'when', not 'if'! Chamberlain fudged our chance when Germany attacked Czechoslovakia but at least it sealed the belief that it was only a matter of time - and a useful excuse - before we would be forced to go to war. No-one at the time could have foreseen how events would develop - what a pity we did not have the services of that great American prophet, Patrick J. Buchanan! The British government knew, and Churchill knew more than most, that we were almost totally unprepared for war and it came as something of a surprise to us, and the Germans, that we actually won the Battle of Britain! In those circs, the British decision to go to war anyway was not without some courage as well as acknowledging the inevitable.
But Buchanan will not have it so! According to him it was all our fault that the Soviets over-ran Eastern Europe! This anti-Semitic buffoon made numerous efforts to run for the Presidency but happily the American public rejected him over and over again. God bless America!
Yes David the Yanks do produce idiots as well as genius. The people did vote for him. We have our Corbyn.
