And perhaps another question is, do I want it to last? The chances are that it will last because, in essence, it will be a fight between the dreaded 'Peeps' and the massed ranks and formations of politicians and bureaucrats all of whom have strong personal reasons to keep the racket rolling along. Do I want it to continue? Well, I'm not sure. If it keeps our 'nearest and, er, dearest' in some sort of harmony that is "A Good Thing!" On the other hand, if some of the constituent members attempt to exert undue pressures in order to 'command and control', that could kick off some major 'fireworks' and that would be "A Bad Thing".
In the end it will all come down to the 'Peeps' and their ruling classes. Unlike us Brits, they do not, on the whole, deal sensibly with civic dissatisfaction. They tend to over-rely on their water cannons and truncheons. The first cracks in the edifice are likely to appear amongst the eastern Europeans. They have recent and unpleasant memories of being ruled over from far away. When things do kick off I suspect the response from Brussels will be clunkingly heavy-handed.
Perhaps I am being unduly cynical but, alas, I sense a rottenness at the heart of the European (dis)Union.
"A Bad Thing"...pilfering in Sellar & Yeatman again?
The EU and the 'peeps'. The never ending war between power and freedom.

It would indeed be ironic if we had Germans sending troops into Eastern European countries to teach them to be nice to ethnic minorities.
