It's possible, depending on the skill of Herr Volker Ullrich - no, me neither until this morning! - that I might go on the 'missing list' over the next few days … weeks? … months? … because I have just purchased his latest book "Hitler: Downfall 1939-1945". Apparently, Herr Volker has already published Part I of his biography but I think I'll give it a miss because I really do not wish to know about the early days of that maniacal twerp and all the various 'scrotes' he gathered around him. However, I have lost count of the number of books on WWII that I have read over the last 60+ years but I have never read one from, so to speak, Hitler's point of view.
It was a spur of the moment decision having just read a review of it in today's Telegraph. Of course, ignorant ex-Corporals like me, and, er, Corporal Hitler, are always eager to pan our own Generals and political leaders for the dimwits many of them were but somehow we forget that the biggest dumkopf of them all was Adolf Hitler. I will let you know how it goes!
Don't let me spoil it for you David,,,but Hitler lost and the Allies won.

David,
The difference between ex corporals like you, and ex lance corporals like me (both substantive) is that unlike a certain Austrian ex-corporal - the one with the toothbrush moustache - neither of us is labouring under the delusion that we are the next Frederick the Great.
