I suppose that growing up through and after WWII has developed an innate tendency in me to hero worship. Of course, at that time there were a host of heroes to choose from our fighting services. Today, I offer you Flight Lieutenant Bob Barckley, RAF, who has just died at the well-deserved age of 99. I say "well deserved", which it was, but perhaps, given the risks he ran, 'incredible' might be more accurate!
Please read his 'obit' via my link. Of course, he and his ilk were entirely responsible for me filling my school exercise books with drawings of Spitfires and Hurricanes instead of what I had been taught so, really, it was his sort who were responsible for my appalling scholastic record!!
Obit is firewalled.

Also of course responsible for you not drawing pictures of ME109's and Dorniers, nor learning your lessons in German.

Isn't it kind of low class for a news paper to hide an obit and write up behind a paywall? Especially of someone so heroic?
