Speaking of names that have to go:
https://www.foxnews.com/us/democrat-party-may-be-due-for-a-date-with-cancel-culture-princeton-professors-argue

It had to come as it is just too tempting a target. The Mensheviks, Trotskyists and Bolshevics are- hopefully- going to off each other in the name of Woke Purity. We can play, "name that party" I can think of one or two.

Well 'they' can, in retrospect I suppose change the name of the dog but can 'they' have a hoot in hell's chance of changing the Portagee language?

http://nautil.us/issue/26/color/why-red-means-red-in-almost-every-language

Good luck to 'they' I say.

I have mentioned this before, I think, that during the war, when I was evacuated to a loving family, they had a dog called 'Nigger'. I never thought anything of it then, and I still don't!

First they came for our dogs' names, and I did not speak out because I was not a dog.

Then they came for our ethnic slurs, and I did not speak out because I was part of the ethnic majority.

Then they started calling me a boorish throwback, and there was no one left to speak for me.

Well I guess we have something in common after all Bob.

(Don't let it go to your head.)

Hmmm ... Something newsworthy (at least in my opinion) my eldest who used to could always be depended on to raise hell with me whenever I showed up on her and the hubby's front door for "a stay" - no not for "the stay" but rather because I was armed.

Anyway last evening I get a plaintive email asking me to give her a good reference to the friend she's known I've long been friends with and who also, coincidentally is former FBI and now teaches defensive handgun tactics.

A handgun purchase in your near future Bob?

I know a couple guys in Indiana too (but I figure your neighbor across the street has probably already helped you hide any such thing from me already).

Just thought I'd offer seeing as how now we've at least one thing in common.

JK,

You once tsk tsked my not caring about the term "woke" (the way I don't care about "cancel culture" now) or reading The Root. I've been reading this guy for quite a while:

https://www.salon.com/writer/chauncey_de_vega

He's over the top, and that's the point. It's boring to read only people I agree with.

Why would I be buying a gun at this particular time? I don't care much about defending myself from the tyranny of being forced to wear a mask:

https://www.4029tv.com/article/arkansas-gov-issues-statewide-mask-mandate/33339153

David, the dog called nigger did not go around stabbing niggers on a regular basis.

Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me!

When the news got to me Bob it just so happened I was wearing a mask - my ophthalmologist's receptionist reminding me yesterday of my annual appointment today informed me of the necessity - and as I'm sure you recall my mentioning I'm called upon occasionally when the regular 'ol' git's' driver is unavailable (for whatever reason) I'm somewhat frequently called upon to fill-in? Well as it happens (and this was "pre-covid" times too!) depending on *specific ol' gits sometimes one of my duties included being the tyrant myself.

But what it boils down to - for me Bob - if its my governor (or mayor) "requiring" my wearing ppe it doesn't bother me a pip, as I've said here several times "local conditions as determined by local authorities" I am quite comfortable adapting to.

What I am object to is Federal authorities issuing 'one size fits all' diktats.

Even so leaving the city limits of the town where both my ophthalmologist has his business also (just coincidentally - I think) happens to be the township which has the FFL I most frequently patronize and as I was out of my pickup and gotten very close to his door the disembodied voice issuing from the speaker at his door announced, "Better be glad I recognize your pickup JK, but you come in here wearing that mask you will be shot!" As I say again Bob, local conditions dictate. The localler the better.

Well, not trusting the feds (revenuers) is a fine old Southern tradition. You go, JK. You're the kind of guy who has good sense in this situation. It's too bad so many others don't. And really, there's not much reason for anyone to trust Washington right now.

This morning I saw a story on Haystack that explained the gun question. Sales are way up. But that seems to be SOP during anything unsettling. Shootings in Chicago? Buy a gun. Democrat in the White House? Buy a gun. BLM? Buy a gun. Pandemic? Etc. and so on. People who think advertising in the form of political propaganda doesn't work are kidding themselves. Funny thing is, only about 40% of households own guns, and the same people keep buying more.

"But that seems to be SOP"

Don't know I agree with your characterizing it as 'standard' Bob. From every quarter of the nation I'm hearing from - I think at least 30 states & and most I'm hearing from are either in the retail gun business directly or LE - anyway there seems to be probably in the neighborhood of 40+% of new firearms purchases (handguns!) being what's ... well I probably shouldn't use the word 'surprising' but since 'it would appear' something in the region of 80% of the 40+% are persons who never previously gave thought to a handgun purchase using 'standard' where the OP is concerned seems awry.

You're familiar with me mentioning 'a kid' very familiar to me being on a somewhat specialized team - I gots to be keerful here on out as the person "moved up in the foodchain" (and now [heh heh] knows what it's like to be 'under orders' to avoid certain sorts of online shit) - anyway Bob you got the clue to who I'm alluding to?

Anyway the numbers of folks this person is coming into contact with fairly recently is surprising the hell outta this person. The 'hijink' the offender[s] doing involving, because NICS has got overloaded and they got 'a rude awakening' that the once common fairy tale of "it's simple to just buy a gun online/wherever" was just that, a fairy tale that, in finding themselves turned down (for whatever reason) they turned to the OP of by any means necessary which, it too turns out isn't as un-fraught as our media (and accomplices) has led the general population to believe.

But then you Bob, being the upstanding law-abiding citizen I know you to be I just kinda assumed would be aware having documented legally obtained defensive machinery is, just now, a better investment than just about anything otherwise that occurs to me just off the top of my head.

I think now is passed when hoarding TP was a Triple A strategy.

Just betwixt the two of us Bob, my erstwhile friend - a sidebar if you will.

Here's my Governor's Wiki page:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asa_Hutchinson

You Bob, maybe recall (iffy) my mentioning something along the lines of - I'm not gonna get into the archives [purposefully] but anyway you may recall my mentioning there is an item in the FBI Vault's been [mostly] declassified where a mention is documented therein where my now Governor requested "active duty military personnel" familiar with a munition that flyover country LE was uhm ... unfamiliar with? (Paragraph 4) Suffice to say the guy's "coolness" impressed me; even unto yesterday when he signed the order ordering me to wear masks. Nuff said?

At any rate - if Asa says Arkies wear masks [ppe] that don't bother me a whit. I'll cooperate enthusiastically emphasis on 'co-operate' (so far as I'm aware our legislature hasn't done what's, statutorily required - I expect there'll be some successful pushback.

Here's an item from a county adjacent to my residence county:

https://www.ktlo.com/2020/07/17/local-law-enforcement-agencies-address-enforcement-of-governors-mask-mandate/

However that county's got some History unique to itself - especially in the oh, 60% of its surrounding the county seat's "comfortable/easily accessible" domicilic landmass (the southeastern and eastern border remains Ozarks).

But I expect the Ozarks to enthusiastically (more or less) support whatever Asa respectfully requests we do.

Posthomously becomes a DoC.

JK,

"Firearm sales traditionally increase during presidential election years, fueled by fears among gun owners that the next president could restrict their rights. But this year has seen a series of previously unheard-of numbers as one crisis after another has emerged: the coronavirus, demonstrations over racial inequality and police brutality, as well as deep political divisions among Americans."

We've got perfect storm conditions. Maybe America ends because we all shoot each other.

Changing the subject abit Bob - sincerely hope this's something you'll get a kick out of. Might have to scroll it back to the zero mark.

JK,

I sort of get a kick, but probably not for reasons you'd agree with.

Kicks is kicks Bob.

Well, the 'feeling' of kicks at least.

Well Bob, reckon it's a "good thing" not all Indianans follow your example?
